What is the NIFT admission process for the Bachelor's Program?

NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), opens admissions annually for both the masters and bachelors’ programs. We’ll be talking about the Bachelor’s admission process. There are 2 degrees offered in the Bachelor’s program that are:

 1. Bachelor of design

 2. Bachelor of Fashion Technology

The admission process is similar for both. NIFT releases it’s admission forms around October-November. The NIFT CAT and GAT exams take place around February and the Situation test happens around April- May.

So, let’s talk about each of the exams.

1. NIFT CAT (Creative Ability Test)

This test is to find out if your creative juices are flowing or not. You’re asked some super fun questions, so feel free to go wild. Originality matters most! This section holds a weightage of 50%. The duration is 3 hours and the total marks are 100. There are around 3-4 questions which involve illustrating fictional scenarios, making emojis, testing color skills etc.

2. NIFT GAT (General Ability Test)

The GAT exam is held on the same day as the CAT and holds a weightage of 30%. For the B. Des program the exam has 100 MCQ questions to be answered in 2 hours and for the B.F Tech program the exam has 150 MCQ questions to be answered in 3 hours. This exam test you on the basis of your quantitative skills. Your mathematical ability, English grammar skills, general knowledge etc. So, put your looking glasses on and start spying on every little thing going on around you!

3. NIFT Situation Test

The situation test happens in one of the NIFT campuses closest to you. This one is to test how good you are with material handling. The weightage is 20%. You’ve got to make an awesome model with basic craft material in the given time and explain your concept. You’ll be judged on the basis of finesse, details and concept.

Yep, so that’s about the exams. After this, you select your campus based upon your final rank from both of the exams and you get in. Woohoo! Done!
