NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) conducts its entrance exams annually for both the masters and bachelors’ programs. One of the exams that is common to most of the degrees they offer, is the GAT. The General Ability Test. This test is taken so that NIFT can find out how smart you all are in terms of general aptitude. You know, things like math, English, general knowledge.
There are a few basic things like the duration and language I’ll mention first: Language: English/Hindi
Duration: 120 minutes
Sections: there are no sections, it’s based upon the number of questions
Total number of questions in B. Des exams: 100
Total number of questions in M. Des exams: 120
Type of Questions: Objective MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions)
The types of questions are as follows:
1. Communication Ability
Number of questions; B. Des: 25, M. Des: 30.
This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, comprehend a situation from a given passage etc.
2. English Comprehension
Number of questions; B. Des: 25, M. Des: 30.
This section is all about making you read a huge paragraph and answer the questions from it. They need to know if you actually read or just pass time. So read it properly.
3. Quantitative Ability
Number of Questions; B. Des: 20, M. Des:20.
This sub-test is designed to test your quantitative ability. The sub test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion and Distance.
4. Analytical Ability
Number of questions; B. Des: 15, M. Des: 25
This subtest is designed to test your capacity for inference and logic from the given information and to evaluate your ability to identify the given problem and apply reasoning in solving the core issues of the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.
5. General Knowledge and Current Affairs
Number of questions; B. Des: 15, M. Des: 15.
I bet this one is pretty clear. You need to know about the things going on around you. The big things and things related to design.
