The NIFT personal interviews are conducted only for the post graduate programs. The interviews don’t have a set criterion. But there are a few topics on which the questions are based.
We’ll be spitting out pure facts and only facts. Verified information from the NIFT website. Its guidelines, as of 2023. So, the personal interviews. For Institutes offering studies in the field of design, as a golden rule of thumb, they are highly likely interested in finding out how good you are at thinking of the unique. The most out of this world ideas. And, that’s what NIFT does too.
They’ve mentioned what they are looking for, which is;
1. Career Orientation:
Why did you chose NIFT? Why do you want to pursue this field of study? Basically, what’s your life plan when you are choosing NIFT. They want to know how passionate you are towards the subject and how hard you are willing to work for it. Questions like, ‘Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?’ are asked.
2. Aptness for the Course:
This one is to understand whether you are right for the course or not. Whether you have the zest for it. Design requires creativity and that comes from within, so they’ll check whether you’ve got it or not.
3. Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities:
I bet this one is pretty clear. What all really great things have you done in your educational life till now? Or in the co curriculars, you know, things like sports, dance, music etc.
4. Communication:
This one is important because as a designer you need to be well versed in getting your ideas across. Whether it’s by sketching, by talking or any other method of your own. You need to be really good at it. Convincing people that you are the one, your design in the one, is essential.
5. General awareness, aptitude, creative and lateral thinking:
Now, this is the one where you need to tell them you are the jack of all. Your brain can think both ways, both creatively and laterally. And you’ve got superb observation skills too, which is why you will know all the general knowledge questions they ask.
Before you go for the interview, take a deep breath and calm yourself down. Make sure to take a few moments and introspect. This is to make sure you know what are your qualities and how you should frame your sentences so that you can bring them to light. Don’t write any scripts or try to recite things. Just be yourself and talk as you would normally do. Good Luck!
