What are the documents required for admission at NIFT?

NIFT (National Institute of Design), one of India’s most reputed design institutions holds its admissions once a year to bring in students that’ll add value to the institute’s prestige. Their admission process involves 2 rounds of examinations. The first is a written test and the second one is personal interviews, situation tests or group discussions. 

 Once you make it through all those things, you get to select your campus and make it into the institute. But wait, not so quickly. There is a whole list of documents they want from you before they actually let you in to make sure you are not a scam. We’ll be telling you what all those are in this blog. 

 All the documents are required along with the photocopies right after qualifying the entrance examination. You’ll be uploading all of it, self-attested to the NIFT website. And do keep in mind, this online verification means the admission is still provisional. Only once the physical verification is done at the campuses, will you actually be confirmed in. Don’t worry, all your original documents will be returned, they’ll just keep the medical certificate.

So, the documents are:

1. Certificates of qualifying examination i.e. 12th class/degree (marks Sheet and Certificate). In case of admission to PG courses, the candidates will also be required to upload the (Mark Sheet and Certificate) of the qualifying degree examination. In case the candidate has appeared in final semester/ final year (as applicable) then he/she will have upload mark sheet of all the previous semester/ years.

2. In case the candidate has appeared for qualifying exam/compartment (of final year/semester) and the result is due, the date sheet /admit card for examination is to be uploaded. Proof of completion of previous year’s paper in the qualifying degree/ examination.

3. Proof of date of birth (Secondary School Mark Sheet & Certificate) (Original and Photocopy).

4. Valid certificate of SC/ST/OBC - Non-Creamy Layer/ PWD/Open - EWS category claimed in candidate’s name.

5. For State Domicile seats the status of domicile will be decided by the address of school from where the candidate has completed XIIth. Kashmiri Migrants will be recognized as Domicile of Kashmir if valid certificate as per Government of Jammu & Kashmir O/o The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) J& K, Jammu is produced. These candidates can opt for only one state for claiming Domicile i.e. either Kashmir or state from which passed class XIIth exam.

6. Certificate of Medical Fitness to be signed by a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format in original.

7. An undertaking for seeking provisional admission only in case, the result of qualifying examination is yet to be declared (Available In the NIFT Official Guidelines pdf, in the format at Annexure-I).

8. An undertaking on Anti-Ragging (Available In the NIFT Official Guidelines pdf, Annexure-II).

9. An undertaking regarding refund of fee (Available In the NIFT Official Guidelines pdf, Annexure-IV).

10. The requisite fee has to be paid online once an offer of allotment is made during the seat allocation process through payment gateway. Candidate’s provisional admission will be confirmed only if requisite fee payment is verified.

Those are all the documents required. Plus, if you are submitting documents in any other language that Hindi/English then you are required to provide an authentic translation, or else they might refuse your admission.
