How to practice aptitude questions for design entrances?

Embarking on your journey towards cracking design entrances can be both thrilling and daunting. Design entrances are definitely not the easiest to clear and a thorough preparation can significantly enhance your chances of success.

From having discussed the exam patterns of these design entrances in our previous blogs (do check them out😉), we know that they are usually divided into the aptitude section, and the design & drawing section. Preparation for design entrances, especially when papers like UCEED/CEED have negative marking for their aptitude section, require a more strategic approach and comprehensive preparation.

Instead of turning the whole situation stressful and eating books after books for breakfast, lunch, & dinner, we'll explore effective and enjoyable ways to practice aptitude questions for design entrances in this blog.

1. The Understanding of Part A

As I always stress in my other blogs too, understand the problem and its essence before figuring out how to tackle it.

What is the aptitude section for — to gauge your critical thinking, problem- solving, and analytical skills.

What does the aptitude section cover — numerical reasoning, logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, general knowledge and visual aptitude.

2. The Fun, the learning and your daily streak

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. And all play and no work also makes Jack a dull boy. So how do we mix both?

Daily Challenges- Dedicate a few minutes each day to solve puzzles, brain teasers, and riddles. Be it from websites, books, apps or challenges tailored by a third-party (like your parents), don’t break that daily streak of yours!

Game-Based Learning- Use design to help you learn design. Platforms like Lumosity, Elevate, and Peak offer entertaining games that stimulate different areas of cognitive function. Compete with friends or set personal records to make your learning experience enjoyable and keep motivated.

Mock Tests- The age-old exam tradition. Mock tests are your best friend in exam preparation. Turn it into a simulation-style game and take those mock tests to analyze your performance, identify areas of improvement, and strategize accordingly.

Group Study Sessions-Having friends in the same boat always makes the experience more enjoyable. Like a clan of warriors or bandits, have game-nights, exchange ideas, discuss strategies, and solve problems together. Remember, design in the real world often relies on teamwork.

3. The Regular Review

Consistent revision is key to retaining what you have learnt. Be it in the form of flashcards, pop quizzes, or quick tests — revise, practice, and polish!

4. The Guidance

Don't hesitate to seek guidance. Either you could join coaching, or forums, discussion groups, and social media communities dedicated to design entrance exam preparation. Engage in meaningful conversations, seek advice from experienced individuals, and create a basket of their wisdom.

5. The Learning Curve

Make mistakes. Understand the process, why it was wrong and how it could have been improved.

Whenever I felt in the dumps or beat myself too much about things I didn’t know, I looked back at my progress — my learning curve. I stumbled. But then I grew.

So, instead of mastering aptitude questions for design entrances as a mere tiresome task, look at it as an exciting journey of self-discovery and improvement. Practice regularly, make mistakes and have fun. Remember, success is not just about reaching the destination but enjoying the ride along the way. So, gear up, embark on your aptitude adventure, and stride towards your design dreams!
